Message from the Executive Director
African Network for the Prevention and Protection against Child Abuse and Neglect (ANPPCAN) is a pan-African child rights organization. ANPPCAN was founded in 1986 in Enugu, Nigeria during the First African Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect, whose theme was ‘Child Labour in Africa’ and has its headquarters in Nairobi. It has observer status with the African Union and similar status with the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights. ANPPCAN Somaliland/Somalia Chapter (ANPPCAN-SOM) is affiliated with ANPPCAN. ANPPCAN-SOM was founded in 2008 in Hargeisa, Somaliland and it has operational offices in Garowe and Mogadishu.
It is both an honor and privilege to serve as the Executive Director for ANPPCAN-SOM. Founded and based in Africa, our mission is to enhance, in partnership with others, the prevention and protection of children from all forms of maltreatment, thus, ensuring that the rights of children are realized and preserved.
ANPPCAN-SOM was founded with the main aim of advancing children’s rights and welfare. As such, ANPPCAN-SOM continues to operate on the basis of recognition and respect of the rights of children. ANPPCAN-SOM recognizes that all people are born free and equal in dignity and rights, hence sensitive to the moral values, progressive customs and cultures of the communities it serves.
I encourage you to explore our website and find out how you could be involved in some of the programs and services we offer to Somali children.
