ANPPCAN-SOM was established in 2008 as one of the 28 Chapters across the continent.

ANPPCAN-SOM is a legally registered body in Somaliland and Somalia. It is a non-government, not-for-profit and non-partisan organization concerned with status of children and women in general and those in need of protection in particular. It is affiliated with ANPPCAN, a Pan-African child rights organization with headquarter in Nairobi, Kenya. ANPPCAN-SOM could also be labelled as an implementing organization which designs and implements various projects with the financial and technical support of international development partners. ANPPCAN-SOM has valid MoUs with relevant Government authorities in Somaliland, Puntland and the Federal Government.

Geographical Focus

ANPPCAN-SOM is registered and has operational mandate in Somaliland and Somalia. It has field offices in Garowe (Puntland) and Mogadishu (South Central Zone) with headquarter in Hargeisa, Somaliland. This provides the organization with a wider coverage to reach as many beneficiaries as possible in across the country.

Vision

ANPPCAN-SOM envisions a “country in which all children, particularly the vulnerable children enjoy their rights and are free from all forms of maltreatment”.

Mission

ANPPCAN-SOM’s mission is “to enhance and uphold the rights of the children and women and protect them from all forms of maltreatment in partnership with stakeholders including duty bearers and the children through policy research, advocacy, training as well as providing basic services using evidence-based participatory approaches and coalition building”.

Strategic Objectives

Following are ANPPCAN-SOM’s major strategic objectives:

  • To undertake comprehensive and systematic situational analysis and continuous monitoring on the issues affecting the protection, participation, survival and development of Somali children and women;
  • To advocate for and lobby for the ratification and enforcement of national and international protocols and conventions that enhances the status and the welfare of Somali children and women; and
  • To work with national and international stakeholders for the realization of the SDGs and the core commitment for the children and women.
